Police Run From Angry Residents Of Mphambo Village Giyani Limpopo

The community Members of Mphambo Village in Giyani started a mob justice and attacked the police who responded to the scene. The residents took their ferocity to the street, as they believed that cops had shot and killed a community member.

Dennis Hlungwani aged 37, from Mphambo village was shot several times by a Warrant Officer. The officer attached to the Giyani public order police had fled after the incident.

Giyani has the highest level of mob violence, the police have seriously condemned, residents from taking the law into their own hands as this practice continues to destroy the community and mostly leads to shop looting.

One Police Captain was seriously injured and six police vehicles were damaged by the angry mob.

Limpopo police spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the suspects who assaulted the police captain and damaged state property had not yet been arrested but cops were in the process of identifying them.

“The motive behind the incident is not yet clear at this stage, but ongoing investigations by the police and Ipid will tell. The police in Malamulele opened cases of murder and malicious damage to property, said Ngoepe”

“The warrant officer involved in the murder incident has since been arrested.”

“The injured police captain was treated and discharged from hospital.”
